Dine Weaver: Velma Kee Craig

Velma is a textile artist, a teaching artist, and assistant curator at the Heard Museum. She is a graduate of Arizona State University with a BA in English Literature and a minor in American Indian studies. Velma teaches Diné weaving workshops with organizations such as the Heard Museum, the Phoenix Indian Center, the Sacred Youth Foundation, and local school districts. Velma’s weaving has also been shown as part of the exhibitions: WOVEN: The Art of Contemporary Native Weaving; Connective Tissue: New Approaches to Fiber in Contemporary Native Art; WEAVE: construct. code. connect; and Hands on the Loom: Diné Textiles Past & Present.
