Dry Heat Comedy Nights – 8/1

Laughter is the best medicine to cope with our Arizona heat. Come out during the evening hours to hear some of the funniest comedians in the Valley perform clean, adult humor. Goodyear Community Park, 3151 N. Litchfield Rd. at 8PM. Bring lawn chairs or blankets as well as food and beverages of your choice (no glass containers please). There will also be food for purchase from our on-site food vendors.

Coffee with a Cop - 8/20

Coffee with a Cop is a great opportunity to meet with officers in an informal setting and talk about concerns, share ideas, ask questions, and learn how to keep your family and home safe from crime. August 25: John Longo, Studio 6

Circle 6 Studios began with a simple mission: promote the growth of art glass and glass artists in the Phoenix area. Founded by John Longo, a glass artist for more than 30 years, it began as a small private studio dedicated to providing artists a place to develop their skills and create their work. Over the years, the studio has grown – John and his team of artists create everything from blown glass chandeliers and vases, to metal and glass sculptures, along with various other art forms. The gallery in downtown Phoenix offers classes and original artworks for purchase. John will share information about this amazing medium, his story as an artist, and how art glass has influenced Phoenix over the years.

SAVE THE DATE: City Offices Closed & Sanitation Pick Up Changes for the Holidays

City offices will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7. Curbside trash, recycling, and bulk collection services will shift to one day later than the normal collection days. State of the City Event – 10/20

Mayor Georgia Lord will give an address on the state of the city of Goodyear on Tuesday, October 20 at Desert Edge High School Performing Arts Center, 15778 West Yuma Rd. Doors open at 6PM; program begins at 6:30PM. The event is free.

This Month: Bicycle Laws 

Arizona state law (ARS Title 28, Article 11) regulates bicycle use. Some of the provisions of the law state that bicycle riders must follow the same rules of the road as vehicles. This includes stopping at stop signs and red lights, as well as using hand signals when turning at intersections.

A bicycle rider may be stopped and issued a traffic ticket just like in a car.

If a bicycle is ridden at night, the bicycle must be equipped with an illuminated headlamp visible 500 feet to the front and a rear reflector must also be attached visible 300 feet to the rear.

Bicycles may also be ridden two abreast on the far right side of the roadway.

A frequent question is whether a bicycle can be ridden on a sidewalk. The answer is yes, however, the sidewalk must also be shared with pedestrians, so be considerate of one another.

Another question relates to helmet usage. The use of a bike helmet is not required by law; however, it is always a good practice. You may only get one chance to survive a bike crash; so, as they say, “use your head” and wear a helmet!

Motor vehicle drivers and bicycles must share the road safely. Please be safe and courteous to everyone on the roadway.

You're liable to see opportunities for city staff before we do and we are counting on you to alert us to opportunities to solve problems such as potholes, street lights out, missed trash/recycling collections, and code violations.

Of course you are always welcome to call us, but we realize you may not notice an issue during regular city department business hours. Using our online tools, you can notify us when it's convenient for you and receive updates about fixes or communications from city staff when we are able to respond.

The online reporting tool is NOT for emergencies. For emergencies, you should always cal 9-1-1 (life threatening) or 623-932-1220 (non-life threatening). 

But, if you just see something we can do better or make better, drop us a line using one of these tools:

Click here from your mobile device to find a link to download a mobile app (available for iPhone, Android, Windows and Blackberry), making it easier to upload photos and utilizing GPS to help find the problem location.

You'll need to create a username and password to submit a request, but that will enable you to get important  progress reports. From the mobile app, check out "Nearby Requests" to see if something you've noticed has already been reported. If so, you can check out the status, read any comments and "follow" the request to get updates along with the original reporter for a public request. Mark requests private, if you'd like to maintain some anonymity.

This Month: Pet Waste

Report illegal dumping into storm drains. To report a problem or for more information, visit www.goodyearaz.gov , www.azstorm.org , or call 623-882-3110.

When pet waste is disposed of improperly, not only does it affect water quality, but your health may be at risk. Pet waste can be a major source of nutrients and pathogens (bacteria and viruses) in local waters.

Every time it rains, pet waste that is left on the ground can be washed into storm drains that carry it directly to our rivers and lakes without being treated. Once pet waste enters our water bodies it decays, using up dissolved oxygen and releasing compounds that are harmful to fish and other animals. Pet waste may contain bacteria which can cause disease in humans. Pet waste contains nutrients that can cause excessive algae growth, leading to cloudy or green water.

Make sure you have extra baggies in the car for when you drive to the park. Carry biodegradable plastic bags while walking your dog to pick up pet waste. Flushing pet waste is the best disposal method or throw it away in the trash.

Carry enough baggies, as well as some extras to hand out to less conscientious dog-walkers. No need to fill up your pockets, try tying the baggies either onto the leash or your dog’s collar.

Pick up pet waste from your yard and don’t hose it down the storm drain.

What is a Code Violation?

Complaints of code violations are typically received through our Code compliance department. The property is inspected by the Code compliance Officer who determines if a violation exists. The owner or responsible party is notified by the officer and given a set period of time to correct the violation. A reinspection is conducted to ensure the violation has been cleared.

Be a Good Neighbor... Follow the Codes

Pets kept within city limits are allowed as long as they do not cause, create, contribute to or become a pubic or private nuisance due to:

• noise at any time of the day or night;
• the presence of flies, insects, vermin, odors, dust, or other obnoxious material, and;
• any other like reason.

No more than four household pets are allowed per property.
