The city of Goodyear offers swim lessons taught by certified instructors. Swim lessons are offered for participants ages 6 months and up and are geared towards all ability levels. One session of swim lessons includes eight 30-minute classes. Swim Lessons are offered for Goodyear residents only.

Parent and Child

This class is designed to teach parents how to safely work with their child in the water. Through songs and activities, participants will become familiarized in the water and be taught swim readiness skills.

Intro to Preschool

Intro to Preschool Aquatics is for participants who have had little to no formal swimming experience. This class will help preschoolers become comfortable in an aquatic environment and be introduced to basic swim readiness skills such as floating and rolling over.

Preschool Level 1

Preschool Level 1 Aquatics is for those who are consistently comfortable in the water and/or have passed Intro to Preschool. The instructor will focus on forward movement and recovery for air with assistance. Skills are similar to Youth Level 1, but activities are geared toward younger participants.

Level 2

Youth Level 2 Aquatics is for participants who can float, glide, and rollover with little to no assistance and/or have passed Youth/Preschool Level 1. This class will focus on performing more skills independently while progressing into the fundamentals of freestyle.

Youth Level 3 Aquatics is for participants who can swim 10 yards on their front independently and/or have passed Youth Level 2. This class will teach the mechanics of freestyle and backstroke with proper arm extension and body roll. This class will also start teaching head-first entries.

Youth Level 4 Aquatics is for participants who can swim 25 yards of proper freestyle and backstroke independently and/or have passed Youth Level 3. This class will teach the mechanics of butterfly and breaststroke with proper technique and timing while continuing to expand on freestyle and backstroke.

Youth Level 5 is for participants ages 5 and older who can swim each competitive stroke and/or have passed Youth Level 4. This class will focus on refining stroke technique, learning turns and racing dives, and increasing endurance.

Swim Team Prep

Swim Team Prep is for participants ages 5 and older who can swim at least 50 yards and know all of the competitive strokes. This class will be run similar to a swim team practice in order to prepare participants for a formal swim team.

Please make sure your account is setup and your dependents are added prior to registration. Residency verification is required for those creating a new account. To verify residency, please email gyrec@goodyearaz.gov a picture of a driver's license or utility bill with your name or stop by the Recreation Office with proof of residency.
