Veterans Weeks: Run. Remember. Celebrate | November 2-7, 2026

This a community-wide Veterans Week campaign that begins with the Tribute Flag Garden, Patriotic Art Murals, and Banners of Brave at Goodyear City Hall, continues with the West Valley Veterans Day Ceremony and 5K/1-mile Run/Walk in partnership with Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) and culminates at the Veterans Day Tribute Festival honoring those who have served. Together, these experiences invite the community to reflect, recognize, and celebrate our local veterans while fostering patriotism, remembrance, and gratitude throughout Veterans Week.

Honor a Veteran through Banners of the Brave: due September 15

As part of the city’s annual Veterans Day Tribute, Goodyear proudly honors local veterans through the Banners of the Brave Light Pole Banner Program, a heartfelt initiative military community. Do you have a family member or loved one you’d like to honor? Eligible honorees must meet the following criteria:

  • A veteran who was honorably discharged, OR
  •  A service member who lost their life in the line of duty
  • The individual must have lived in Goodyear or have a close family connection to the community (spouse, parent, legal guardian, grandparent, child, or sibling currently residing in Goodyear).

General Information

  • Applicants must submit an official military photo in uniform.
  • Verification of military status via DD214 may be requested upon selection for participation.
  • Submissions will close on Tuesday, September 15, 2026
  • Submissions do not guarantee participation; all submissions are reviewed through a vetting process by a selection committee.
  •  Once the application is verified, the City will notify the applicant of the approval and create the banner. Banners will be installed annually to coincide with the Veterans Day events.
  • The applicant will be emailed a notification letter of when and where the banner will be installed honoring the military service member or veteran. Banner Display and Collection

Banners of the Brave are displayed at Goodyear City Hall on a two-year rotation. Each year, 12 new veterans will be added, allowing every honoree's banner to be displayed for two consecutive Veterans Day seasons. At the end of the two-year display period, banners will be available for pickup by the honoree or their nominator. Pickup details will be provided in advance. Once a banner has completed its two-year cycle, it will be made available for pickup by the honoree or their nominator. We will reach out with additional details when that time approaches.

Branches of Honor Mural Experience: due September 28

The city of Goodyear invites Arizona artists to submit qualifications for a unique temporary public art project honoring the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Six artists will be selected to each create one temporary mural representing each branch of the U.S. military.

Each mural will be installed on an 8’x8’ double-sided temporary mural wall. While one side will feature the artist's original artwork celebrating the assigned military branch, the reverse side will serve as an interactive Community Gratitude Wall where veterans, military families, and community members can leave messages of appreciation, remembrance, and support throughout the week and at the Veterans Day celebration.
